Fractal Design Define XL R2 FD-CA-DEF-XL-R2-BL Black/Pearl Steel ATX Full Tower Computer Case
  • Verified Owner
  • Owned For: 1 week to 1 month

Pros: -Huge
-Tons of space to work
-Amazing cable management
-Tons of customization (fans, removable hdd racks)
-Sleek

Cons: -Case was warped like some others. This made getting the mobo into the correct spot a pain in the ---. My screws still aren't perfect but it works and isn't falling down. The BIGGEST issue with this was the gpu wouldn't fit flush with the back and I was putting a lot of pressure on it. 780ti and Asus Extreme VI mobo. So fairly expensive parts. Still worked though --- Due to the stress of this, I'm docking it one egg.
-Somewhat loud, I've got the 3 case fans, one aftermarket on top, and the frio cpu cooler. Changing fan speed on front doesn't make it quieter. This isn't an issue though, I expected this considering it's a brute and it's keeping things cool so I can't complain. I've got 2 more fans to put in still. I like that the case fans had there own controller so I can hook up 3 extras to the mobo without having to go through the power supply at all.

Other Thoughts: This is a great case for the money. My mic and headphone jacks were correct (some people said they were switched around). Everything worked, just be wary of getting a warped case. It's the metal behind where the mobo goes. You can tell if you have the sides off and look from the top. The space on the back side, where your cpu would go is bent slightly inwards on mine. Makes mounting a pain. Just push hard. I put a lot of pressure on mine and it seems alright.

Synology DS1512+ Diskless System High Performance NAS Server Scales up to 15 Drives for SMB Users
  • Verified Owner
  • Owned For: 1 week to 1 month

Pros: Running 5x 3tb WD Red drives. Using Synology Hybrid RAID which is basically RAID 5 in my setup. Have roughly 10.8 tb for storage. I'm using this primarily as a media server to stream to my xbox so my computer doesn't have 4 external hard drives and is on 24/7.

Media Server app is awesome. Simple set up and it's ready to go. Streaming perfect. Setup was a breeze. I'm still learning everything about it but it's so easy to use.

I like how it looks. Some people were saying the lights were too bright but I don't mind them. I'm used to my computer being on though and it's brighter.

Cons: Price, but it wasn't too big of a deal. Honestly, it's worth it for how simple this was to set up. Keep in mind that I have very limited networking knowledge. I know computers but networking always gets me confused unless it's simple. And it was a breeze for me.

Other Thoughts: Make sure you're ready for the investment. With the server and the drives, I was looking at $1500 ish.

Other things to consider are your home network capabilities. I need to upgrade my router and all my cabling. Currently through my router from my comp I'm only getting 11.2 mb/s write speed. But I just left it on overnight and it finished. Luckily the majority of my stuff was on external 3.0s so I just plugged those directly into the server and they transferred much quicker at around 70 mb/s.

I haven't upgraded the RAM or the fans yet. Although it seems quite quick and the stock fans are fairly quite even when I changed my settings to speed them up.
