SYBA SY-ADA20079 InfoZone SuperSpeed USB 3.0 to SATA III Device Adapter Cable with AC Adapter
  • Owned For: 1 month to 1 year

Pros: Very portable, Works fine

Cons: failed to mention in prior review that it apparently does not support 'sleep' (spin down) using drives which have this feature.

Other Thoughts: concerning earlier 'con' comments 'Can't use 2 concurrently' issues of non-unique drive identification and display in 'safely remove hardware' task bar pop-up list, despite clear documentation of issue, initial Syba support response was as posted in review, but within a day they got back to me requesting me to RMA the devices as suspect of a 'problematic earlier manufacture issue'. RMA was promptly addressed and back to my P.O.Box within days (I've been away last 6 weeks so slow to pick-up, confirm fix and post update). RMA replacements show as two unique USB devices and can now be independently manipulated in ''safely remove hardware' task bar pop-up.

3 out of 5 eggs Can't use 2 of these concurrently 05/29/2013

This review is from: SYBA SY-ADA20079 InfoZone SuperSpeed USB 3.0 to SATA III Device Adapter Cable with AC Adapter

Pros: Very portable, one at a time works fine

Cons: Bought two expecting to be able to use both concurrently, but when two are connected (even to different controllers i.e. one to mobo usb2 other to add-on usb3) they look like one physical device with mfgr's label of "012345678901234567890123456789012345678901234567", and apparently the identical funky name is not the problem (e.g. I have two WD's with identical mfgr's label "My Book 1111", but they look like two devices with same name, such that I can 'safely remove hardware' for one of the My Books without affecting the other) With the SY-ADA20079's it's like the drives connected to them are different partitions on the same device, and "safely remove hardware" of one also nails the other. Also gets the assigned drive letter mappings mixed up randomly!!! THERE DEFINITELY SHOULD BE A DOCUMENTED WARNING THAT ATTEMPTING TO USE MORE THAN ONE OF THESE CONCURRENTLY ON THE SAME PC WILL ENSURE BADLY UNPREDICTABLE RESULTS.

Unless physical environment is optimal and controlled, the loose connection issue mentioned by other users will get you, though duct tape (USED CAUTIOUSLY on fragile connector) will minimize surprise disconnects. I suspect connection was designed super-loose to keep the flimsy connector from snapping on removal

Other Thoughts: can't speak to USB3 speed as my USB3 card is just PCIe x1 bandwidth
